The Department of Library and Information Science was established in the year 2004 under self-financing scheme with the intention to provide quality education in the field of Library and Information Science to the students of this region. It was for the first time to the boundaries of the University campus that Library and Information Science Department was constituted at par with other teaching departments under self-financing scheme. The training in the discipline of Library and Information Science is needed for developing and shaping future managers of Libraries and Information Centers. Such managers with necessary skills and aptitude are required for converting their respective centers of activities into excellent sources for accessing the ever-exploding literature and information related to the various disciplines. The department has a separate Computer Laboratory with 10 computers and a printer, which are available for the students. The Computer Lab has rounded the clock internet connectivity where students are allowed to access the internet to pursue their studies. The Department has a separate well-stocked library having a collection of more than 1500 books on all areas of Library and Information Science. The departmental library also subscribes to a number of Indian and foreign journals to provide latest information in the subject. Classification Schemes, Catalogue Codes, and list of Subject Headings are also in the collection of libraries. Keeping the above importance of Library and information Science in view, the department offers the following programmes of study.

Program Outcome
Bachelor's degree in Library and Information Science aims to:
- Train students in modern library administration and prepare them for careers in Academic, Public and Special Libraries.
- Impart education and training for generating budding library professionals in the present scenario of information age.
- Develop manpower for libraries and information centres for effective and efficient services, professional values, dedication and attitude.
- To equip students with competent skills essentially required for carrying out various housekeeping operations of library and Information Centers using ICT.
- To develop LIS students as competent professionals in the field by imparting employability skill based on effective communication, critical thinking, and ethical literacy.
- Enable to become lifelong learners for their personal growth and development.

A separate well equipped computer lab is meant for the students of both the courses offered by the department ( MLISc. and BLISc.) besides Central Library and the E-Resource Centre. The computer laboratory has 10 updated computers, one LCD with display board and three printers. The Department has wi fi connectivity for faculty and students. Students are allowed to access the internet to pursue their studies.
Library
Library is always known as the heart of any academic institution. The Departmental library is housed in spacious hall. The Library of the Department is having a total collection of more than one thousand books related to curriculum by different National and International authors. The departmental library is also subscribing to a number of important journals in the field of Library & Information Science besides Classification schemes, Catalogue Codes and other such tools.
Seminar Hall
A fully air conditioned and well equipped with all ICT facilities a big seminar hall is having 75 users capacity is available for organizing and conducting Seminars, Workshops and User Awareness Programmes at regular intervals to provide additional exposure of new concepts and developments in the field of Library and Information Science.

Library is known as the heart of any academic institution. It is also said that without a library no academic institution can survive. With the tremendous growth of academic institutions in the entire country the demand of library science professionals has increased to many fold. Library Science professionals are demanded by the Universities, Institutions, Colleges, Information Centres, Documentation Centres and Research Centres. Therefore the job opportunities in this professional course is evergreen.
Placement
All the students of the department have been placed in different positions in various Institutes/Universities/Colleges. It is the remarkable achievement of the department that none of its pass out student is on road side, resulting the rush for seeking admission in these professional courses offered by the department.

Achievements
Department of Library and Information Science was established in the university campus in the year 2004 at par with the other courses under Self Financed scheme, Dr. J. A. Siddiqui, as its first coordinator. Master of Library and Information Science (MLISc) and Bachelor of Library and Information Sciece (BLISc) both one year annual system of examination were started. During the Session 2016-17 Semester system was introduced at MLISc and in 2020-21 in BLISc. Library and Information Science has also been introduced as one of the three subjects at Graduate level from 2018-19. A number of students have qualified NET and other competitive examinations and occupied high positions in different libraries in various parts of the country. Dr. J. A. Siddiqui, Coordinator has been awarded more than a dozen awards from different government and Non government organisations.
